These are D’Addario Chromes flat wound electric guitar strings. The flattened, and polished stainless steel wrap wire provides an exceptionally balanced tone with reduced finger noise ‘squeak’ and smooth feel.
Some say mellow, but I disagree, there’s far more to these strings than commonly expected; I think you can get a wide tonal palette from these strings. If you play jazz and you’re seeking the most fundamental tones possible then Chromes will absolutely deliver; but if you want a powerful, overdriven tone you’ll get that in swathes with these too. In fact, the reduced finger movement noise and fretty ‘fizz’ actually add note distinction through the distortion.
