D’Addario Casein 1.4mm Chris Thile Signature Mandolin Pick
For years, the tortoise or turtle shell pick has been heralded as the ultimate material for guitar tone.
When the trade of turtle shell was (rightfully) made illegal in the 1970’s, the material suddenly became the holy grail of guitar pick tone. Many synthetics have come and gone and none have come as close to matching the unique tonal properties of real shell… until now.
“Our Casein guitar and mandolin picks are made from a natural dairy protein which is the closest in tone and feel to natural tortoise shell that we have found.” The resulting tone is loud, but warm, yet with still plenty of defined pick attack. The edge is bevelled for smooth transitioning between strings but the tip remains pointed for precise playing.
It might seem that such a unique pick is only reserved for the bluegrass and jazz players among us, but Adam (D’Addario) uses them all the time with his Strandberg guitar. It’s just a great sounding, and great feeling pick.
D’ADDARIO OFFICIAL BLURB:
Esteemed for its versatility across playing styles, the Standard 351 Casein Pick is available in a familiar shape—but its playing edge has a right-handed bevel to help it glide along the strings, and a pointed tip for the perfect balance of strumming and articulation.
Casein gives players access to the texture and warm, balanced tone previously found only in natural tortoiseshell picks.
